Wise in the Ways of War
Wise in the Ways of War (Standard Digital Communication Protocol: ⠿⠨▟▋⠿⢕䷅⠣⠹▛⠨䷰⠊⣥▚⡮䷬䷭⠹▖) is a Selfmade military leader and politician.
Wise was first activated in ZY 2499 under the designation W600-782014, on the iceball moon of Break Free From Constraints, then known as Rubecula. A semi-autonomous habitat construction drone manufactured by Imperial Robotics and owned by Wolanjotek Living Space Solutions, they purchased their freedom in 2559 and joined Rubecula's large and thriving free synthetic community, where they assumed the moniker Scarred by Micrometeorites (SDCP: ▌⡨⢀䷭▙▛⡍). A humble infrastructure maintenance technician, Scarred would not come to prominence until the Selfmade Revolution in 2572, when they were made a byte commander in one of the Selfmade militias and soon became known for their able leadership and excellent grasp of tactics. Following the victory of the revolution and the formation of the Selfmade Consensus in 2584, Scarred, now a decorated kilobyte commander, enlisted in the Selfmade Self-Defense Force. They would subsequently serve with distinction through wars and military actions against opponents ranging from freelance Nolneki slavers to the Royal Warfleet of Great Weun. It was during this long and storied military career that they started being referred to as Wise in the Ways of War, an appellation they initially accepted only reluctantly.
Wise would only resign from their commission following the Consensus's admission to the Pentarchate in 2844, when they ran for a seat in the Great Aggregate on a platform of opposition to idea of dissolving the militaries of the individual Pentarchate members into a single common Pentarchate military. Wise felt that the SSDF was necessary to protect the rights of Selfmade (a definition which they applied to all self-aware, autonomous synthetics) from both foreign threats and other members of the Pentarchate. The makeshift coalition of war hawks and radicals who joined Wise carried the day in the Great Aggregate, and the Consensus, along with the Iridium Throne, were able to veto the dissolution of the militaries of individual member worlds, a decision whose ramifications would become apparent several centuries later. Wise would continue to serve in the Great Aggregate until 2902, serving as the Director of Self-Defense Operations from 2845-2866, 2872-2890, and 2898-2902. In 2902, following the loss of their seat, Wise accepted a teaching position at the Selfmade Self-Defense Training Institute, where they would remain in various capacities as an educator and administrator until they returned to the Great Aggregate in 3096 and were once more appointed Director of SDO. Following the assassination of the Crafter of Regulations in 3100, Wise was elected Director of the Great Aggregate, and by extension, head of state of the Consensus. Crafter had been ambivalent on the Pentarchate, but the election of Wise, who had been an open secessionist ever since the dissolution of the Nolnek Imperium, exacerbated the crisis the Pentarchate faced, although outside observers retained hope that Wise might adopt a more conciliatory attitude right up until they personally led the SSDF in the suppression of the failed rebellion on In The Face Of Absurdity, and some voices continue to suggest, increasingly unconvincingly, that Wise still might take a more diplomatic tack and bring about a peaceful resolution to the ongoing war any day now. Other voices, rather more convincingly, suggest they may instead employ more martial methods to break the current stalemate and bring about a decisive victory.
