Wajwoshi is a staple food native to Weun’s southern hemisphere, which has been widely adopted by interspace cuisine for its culinary versatility.

Raw Wajwoshi is a fatty carbohydrate with a small amount of protein that grows in deposits on the bodies of Woshii, a kind of barypod. These deposits form when Woshii consume the toxic sacs in Ungbii along with their otherwise vegetarian diet of cereals. The acidic fungus in the sacs ferments the grain, allowing it to be preserved almost indefinitely - which is much longer than the life of a Woshii requires, but comes in handy for low budget space transport.

In addition to longevity, Wajwoshi has proven to be remarkably malleable to the gastric needs of carbon-based heterotrophs from around the solar system, and some autotrophs as well. Wajwoshi by itself is fairly neutral as organic foodstuff, provided only basic lipids, sugars and a couple essential proteins, and so becomes a canvas for the nutritive needs and taste of its consumers. A seasoned Wajwoshi hash can move from a solid to fluid to particle state without losing nutritive richness or flavor. It breaks down easily, and so won’t gunk up more delicate digestive systems, and can also be baked into a dense chewy or crunchy texture for those who prefer it. Wajwoshi mixed with Fini seeds forms a whole protein, Wajwoshi-based waste makes fine fertilizer, and when burned, the gas given off by ground Wajwoshi is used by Bepthaloans as a medical relaxative. All these uses and more too numerous to list have made Wajwoshi a cost-efficient ingredient substitute for caterers in space stations and other hosts for large diplomatic events. The only distinctive characteristic, to those who can perceive it, of a Wajwoshi based dish is a strong paramagenta coloration. Due to its ubiquity, Wajwoshii has become a symbol of the interspace community, with paramagenta serving as the official signifier of neutral ports and interpreters.
