Weun
Weun (pronounced wey-Une) is a representative democratic state with a constitutional monarchy[1] based on the Zebrekan moon of the same name. Weun, the moon, is the capitol body of Great Weun, a territory which encompasses the whole Zebrekan system and sixteen extra-planetary Weunese cantons.
Weun is a founding member of the Arliok Pentarchate, and Zebreka’s orbit marks the traditional boundary of the Outer Pentarchate and Extralegal Space, with the Opposite Omicron Relay at Zebreka’s L2 Lagrange point being the outermost object owned by any member state.
Geography
Weun is the largest Zebrekan moon and one of the larger spherical bodies in the Pentarchate - 180% the size of the planet Inokh, for comparison. It has a dense nitrogen atmosphere, lively hydrocarbon based weather cycles and liquid oil seas. As is true for the entire Zebrekan system, the Weun’s axis tilts at roughly 80 degrees. The moon’s northern hemisphere is tidally locked to Zebreka, receiving constant heat from the gas behemoth which results in a balmy climate relative to most outer system moons. The southern hemisphere is much colder, and is influenced by the tidal forces from the smaller Zebrekan moons Dolsoi and Ursoi in addition to typical far side lunar cratering.
History
Isolated from the rest of the solar system for most of its history by Zebreka’s location in the deep outer system and unconventional axis, which made it cumbersome for inner system ships to rendevouz with, Weun has an eccentric mystique to inner system peoples. A civilization that developed viewing the solar system, and by extension life, from a backwards, topsy-turvy perspective. However biased that assessment is, Weun’s culture can certainly be described as especially insular, with a supreme emphasis on tropes and mythological archetypes, especially as are applied to their own historical narratives.
Weun’s isolation formally ended with the establishment of the Direct Delta Relay at Zebreka’s L1 Lagrange point in ZY 2344. The DDR was established for trading purposes, although in ensuing centuries it came to be the launchpad for the Royal Warfleet of Great Weun.
In diplomatic circles, Weun is nicknamed the “Crematorium of Empires” for the many failed invasion attempt by foreign powers. This reputation is generally attributed to Weun’s unusually strong homeworld advantage - the strong axis tilt famously causing Ergodicist fleet in the Siege of Weun ZY 2310 to fall into mass hysterics after two weeks in Weun’s orbit. Weun has, in fact, been successfully invaded twice, in ZY 2783 - albeit from within the Zebrekan system - and in 3130, but the moniker sticks nonetheless.
Government
Since the conclusion to the Exasperation of Great Weun in ZY 2790, Weun’s modern government divides into four branches of checks and balances - the executive, legislative, providential, and electoral. In brief: the executive branch is lead by the three consuls, which are democratically elected by citizens of the Weunese homeworld. These consuls are meant to act as a complementary team, possessing personal traits that appealingly and effectively balance each other.
The legislative branch represents all of the cantons of greater Weun in a liquid democratic system, where some cantons are represented by senators, or groups of senators, while others practice direct democracy.
The providential branch is led by the current monarch and consists only of the royal family and their private assassins, the yazir yazo[2].
The electoral branch is led by a commission appointed by members of the three other branches in anticipation of an election cycle.
Weunese style of governance is often derided as “messy”, to put it mildly, and the Weunese public has some infamy for its approach to consul selection, but nonetheless ranks low in corruption by Pentarchate standards.
Role in the Crisis
Weun broke its the four centuries old alliance with the Iridium Throne by siding against Varuk Mai MMCV at the First Congressmoot on Succession. The circumstances and personal characters of the consuls that lead to this fateful decision are hotly debated, although public moral pressure is thought to be a major factor. Consul Valanous presented the final terms of peace that were rebuked by Mai’s Insult, an experience which left them incapacitated for nine days.
As the Crisis began in earnest, the Consuls Xhorine, Lija, and the recovering Valanous unanimously supported the Platinum Front, while Quellidora Rex supported Varuk Mai MMCVI in secret. This rift in leadership was revealed to the Weunese public in ZY 3127, beginning the period which may be called “phase two” of Pentarchate Sucession Crisis.

- ↑ In the modern government, the yazir yazo were meant promote a purely symbolic image of cool badassery. The idea of them secretly still carrying out deadly covert operations was the subject of beloved childrens' franchises at the turn of the 4th millenium ZY.
