Hobas the Statist is a mythical figure representing the power of state authority. He was a wizard who had the power to make the laws of nature conform to the laws of the state. He is primarily referenced in the region around The Great Bay, with particular importance in Aurelia.

Story

The most common story about him is that of the bank robber. The bank robber was galloping down the street, avoiding the guards. Hobas stepped outside to see what the commotion was. To his horror, the robber was going the wrong way down a one-way street. Raising his hand, he declared that the horse could violate traffic laws no further. The horse, moving at a full gallop and unable to proceed, crumpled up like an accordion. The robber was thrown to the ground, where he was captured and sent into forced labor at the mint.

Stories about Hobas are usually used as a metaphor for centralized authority. They are especially popular among monarchs and state officials.
